The first performance, " Silence of Trembling Hands - Zefirum " – was a feast of visual harmony, philosophical peace and spontaneous joy. It was created by Virpi Pahkinen, an artist working with Sweden’s famous Cullberg Ballet, frequently co-operating with Ingmar Bergman himself. And this original performance was full of Bergman-like calmness and meditation leading to perfect harmony. The dancers beautifully communicated the message of the piece not only through their sensitivity, but also through brilliant technique.

Pahkinen offered a great dose of individualised movement, although on a few occasions the six dancers became one, creating a sort of “a solid mass”. I found it really difficult to resist an impression that the dancers had been told a secret telling them how to live and showing the way to perfection. The sense of trust aroused in the audience stemmed from the simplicity of intentions and beautiful drawings by the choreographer, as well as from impressive flexibility of the dancers’ bodies.
