Wycichowska's tango
Who Lady M is? Ladylove, Lady Dream, Muerte - Death? Everyone of them - says Ewa Wycichowska - author of the newest premiere of the Polish Dance Theatre - "Tango with Lady M."
After great success in Łódź as a dancer and choreographer Wycichowska with unchangeable prosperity has been realising for many years her author program of dance theatre. One of the source of her success is absolute hear: Wycichowska knows what dance can create in a very concrete time, how to take possession of the audience, what to talk with the spectators about. Today when in Europe Latin American culture prevail, Wycichowska decided to find inspiration in Astor Piazzollas music - genius tango creator. Using tango - which can not be mechanical in any aspect (as waltz for example). She has touched all of tangos` climates: nostalgia, aggression, eroticism, enthusiasm, discouragement and possessiveness. In tango you can be a winner or a victim - says Wycichowska and in Piazzollas` rhythm lead the audience not through "cheap Latin flashiness" but through drama and pessimism of the European culture. The performance begins with Tango for death. In the procession of characters we can notice allegories of good, evil, envy, goodness, warm, love and death. In tango, in its melody and choreography appears mourning retinue. But there is no grave. All corps is made an offering of the altar of life. In the final act we are witnesses of general reconciliation, characters and ideas find each other and when we think that acceptation appears, music reminds, that everything begins from the beginning once again. "tango for life" lasts. It is great and beautiful performance, which was created, apart of choreographer, by wonderful dancers of the Polish Dance Theatre: fantastic adroit, sensitive, suggestive and disciplined. Also more beauty to performance add amazing costumes made by great Maria Balcerek, debuting in ballet. Her ideas, brave and little shocking, perfectly harmonise with proposed by Ewa Wycichowska move. And it was not very easy task, because apart of traditional silks Balcerek used also leathers. Separate words of approbation should own to Leszek Możdżer, who amazingly completed Astor Piazzollas compositions with his own. There is no, even minimal, stylistic grate. I think that the CD with music from "Tango with Lady M.": should be published. I think also that this kind of marketing activity will ensure bigger success to performance and music.
